Abstract

A product resulting from the action of powerful bases such as potassium or sodium hydroxide on sugar in the warm is added to or produced in rubber latex or its concentrates. The resulting composition is useful as an adhesive. In an example 10kg. of sugar and a solution of 0,84 to 1,12 kg. of potassium hydroxide are heated together at 100 DEG C. for 2 hours and the yellow to brown product is added to latex containing 100kg. of rubber. The product can also be formed in the latex during concentration of the latter by evaporation.
