Abstract
2-Mercaptoarylthiazoles-formaldehyde reaction products are prepared by reacting a 2-mercaptoarylenethiazole with formaldehyde. Thus 2-mercaptobenzthiazole is boiled with formaldehyde solution or heated with such solution in alcohol and in a closed vessel. Similar products are derived from 2-mercaptotolyl- and -xylyl-thiazoles, and 2-mercaptonaphthothiazoles and homologues thereof. The Specification as open to inspection under Sect. 91 (3) (a) refers also to addition products of formaldehyde and a 2-mercaparylthiazole produced by the above process, but this subject-matter does not appear in the Specification as accepted.ALSO:A vulcanizing accelerator possessing delayed action is obtained by reacting a 2-mercaptoaryl, thiazole with formaldehyde. The preparation of a formaldehyde - 2 - mercaptobenzothiazole reaction product is described and tables illustrating its action in the acceleration of vulcanization of a rubber mix given. The reaction products of formaldehyde with 2-mercaptotolyl- or -xylylthiazoles and with 2-mercaptonaphthylthiazoles and homologues thereof are stated to be equally effective. The Specification as open to inspection under Sect. 91 (3) (a) claims also an addition product of formaldehyde and a 2-mercaptoarylthiazole produced by the above process as a vulcanizing accelerator but this subject-matter does not appear in the Specification as accepted.
