Abstract

Proteins are rendered homogeneous and workable by steeping them in water and a volatile soluble neutral substance such as ethylene chlorhydrin, glycol diacetate, lactic acid ethyl ester, alcohol, acetone, without the necessity of using large quantities of water, high temperatures and pressures. According to an example, albuminous substance is heated and kneaded with water and ethylene chlorhydrin, the mass is mixed with colours, and rolled into sheets. The sheets are then heated in the usual way.
