Abstract
Powders suitable for pressure or injection moulding are produced by causing cellulose esters or ethers, with or without plasticizers, fillers, or colouring matters to absorb an aqueous emulsion of a volatile solvent and/or swelling agent containing less water than corresponds to the weight of the cellulose derivative. The emulsion may contain also a water soluble ingredient such as alcohol. In an example, a mixture of 100 parts of acetone-soluble cellulose acetate with filler and colouring matter is caused to absorb an aqueous emulsion consisting of 50 parts of water, 50 parts of alcohol, and 25 parts of methylene chloride, and mixed in a kneading apparatus. Specifications 421,115, [Group V], and 421,332 are referred to. Reference has been directed by the Comptroller to Specification 390,977.
