[Classes 2 (ii) and 2 (iii)] Cellulose ester or cellulose ether compositions are plasticized with compounds of the formula where R1 stands for an alkyl, aralkyl, cycloalkyl or aryl hydrocarbon radicle and R 2 stands for an alkyl, aralkyl or cycloalkyl radicle containing at least one -OOC.CH3 group. Suitable plasticizing agents of this type are acetoxyethyl-acetanilide, acetoxybutylacetanilide, acetoxyethyl-butylacetamide, the product obtained by acetylating a mixture of monooxyethylated xylidines, the substance obtained by acetylating the product of the reaction between aniline and monochlorodiglycol, and the substance obtained by acetylating the product of the reaction between aniline and monochloroglycerine or glycide. Cellulose derivatives mentioned are nitrocellulose and cellulose acetate. In one example, a mixture of nitrocellulose, cellulose acetate, acetoxybutylacetanilide and dimethylphthalate is worked up into a homogeneous plastic mass. On adding filling agents, such as wood powder, lithopone, or ferric oxide red, and rolling, a coating material which forms a substitute for linoxyn linoleum is obtained.
