Preserving.-The cracking of rubber &c. on exposure to air and light is retarded by treatment with an a diketone, such as benzil, phenanthraquinone furil, by adding say 0.5 per cent to the mix before vulcanization, or to latex &c., or by application in solution to the surface of vulcanized articles.
