Abstract

The vulcanization of rubber with the aid of organic accelerators liable to produce scorching under normal conditions is regulated by adding to the mix cadmium oxide or hydroxide before vulcanizing the mix. The organic accelerators used belong to the class of thiuram sulphides, or aldehyde-amines, or aldehyde-amine-carbon disulphide products. The use of cadmium compounds does not discolour the product. Examples are given showing the retarding effect of cadmium oxide and hydroxide. Reference has been directed by the Comptroller to Specification 200,789, [Class 70, Indiarubber &c.].
