Abstract

Tackiness is imparted to butadiene synthetic rubbers by the addition of a small proportion, e.g. up to 5 per cent by weight, of a drier or siccative, such as a resinate, linoleate, tungate or naphthenate of lead, manganese, cobalt, iron, vanadium, zinc, calcium or magnesium. The drier may be added to the rubber during kneading and the rubber may be heated subsequently as by milling on heated rolls or by heating it in a separate vessel. A drier and a degrading agent, such as phenylhydrazine, may be added to rubbers, such as GR-S, and the mixture heated in dry air for 1 hour at 100 DEG C., the product being used as the tackifying agent.
