Abstract
Chlorosulphonated copolymers of an iso-olefine and a minor proportion of diolefine, e.g. of isobutylene and butadiene or isoprene, are prepared by reacting the copolymers with chlorosulphonic acid. The components may be mixed dry in a mill or be mixed with an inert solvent such as carbon tetrachloride, and the product washed and dried. The products may be cured by heating under pressure with a divalent metal oxide, e.g. magnesium oxide alone, with a clay filler, or in the presence of natural rubber and a vulcanizing agent therefore such as sulphur.
