Abstract
250,640. K. D. P., Ltd. Dec. 19, 1924. Addition to 213,886, 214,583, and 219,277. Latex, treating.-Rubber, gutta, balata, or like latices are converted into paste-like or solid water-soluble masses by heating them with hydrolyzing agents whereby materials already present in the latices are converted into protective colloids, and removing water from the heated latex. In an example, 5 per cent of potassium hydroxide calculated on the dry rubber is added to rubber latex and the temperature is raised to 80‹ C. for some hours, and the water is evaporated until a paste containing 15 1<er> cent of water results. Generally, about 2¢ per cent of potassium hydrate is required and the temperature should be raised to 40-80‹ C. for 1-3 hours. Other substances having an alkaline reaction may be used as hydrolyzing agents. The paste may be worked directly into compounded rubber as described in Specification 250,639.
