Abstract

A dispersion is made by masticating in the presence of water, rubber or the like which has been coagulated from latex containing dispersing agents, such as soaps, sulphonated oils, proteins, starch, saponin, dextrin, caramel, gums. To ensure that these agents are retained in the coagulum, coagulation is effected by spray or film-drying or the like. According to an example, 6 parts of oleic acid, 2 parts of caustic potash, and 4 parts of glue per 100 parts of rubber, are added to latex which is spray or film dried. The coagulum is plasticized on rolls and worked in an internal mixer with ammonia water until inversion takes place. An excess of dispersing agent over that required for dispersion may be added to the latex, and the coagulum used as a mother stock in the dispersion of additional untreated rubber.
