Abstract

235,419. James, T. S. Aug. 5, 1924. Variable-speed worm gearing comprises a pair of crown worm-wheels a, b, c for each speed, driven in the same direction by a driving worm 6 which is moved from one pair to another to change the speed. The worm 6 is carried by a jointed shaft 4 which is movable transversely by a linkage 16, 19, 22. The worm is preferably globular. The worm-wheels are preferably spring-connected to discs 7, 7<1> secured to the differential casing 8 as applied to a vehicle.
