Abstract

9877. Sainte-Claire, C. M. de. Nov. 11, 1907, [date. applied for under Section 91 of Patents &c. Act, 1907]. [Patent of Addition to No. 9876, A.D. 1908.] Motor road vehicles.-Relates to change speed gearing for electric automobiles of the constantmesh type and comprises a modification of that described in Specification No. 9876, A.D. 1908. The motor shaft (not shown) carries pinions constantly driving wheels D, E loose upon an intermediate shaft F carried by a casing R, which is partly supported upou the driving-axle T, T'. Either gear train may be brought into driving relation by a double-ended claw clutch I rotatively connected to and sliding on the shaft F. A pinion K, which meshes with and drives a wheel L upon the differential casing S, is arranged between the wheels D, E instead of on the same side of both, allowing the casing R to be made smaller and more symmetrical. In the form shown in Fig. 1, the pinion K has long straight teeth, is formed integrally with the double clutch I, and slides as a whole to either side. In the form shown in Fig. 2, the pinion K, which may have helical teeth, is secured to the shaft F, and the movable parts of the clutch I are connected by a rod N passing through the pinion.
