Gearing with provision for permitting flexure or distortion.-A driving-gear for traction engines &c. consists of an adaptation of the floating-wheel gear described in Specification 19,477/08, so that the final drive takes place through two pinions, each gearing with the large wheel connected to the road wheel. The crank-shaft 7 of the engine drives a countershaft 15 through wheels 9, 10, 17. The countershaft has a fixed bearing at one end, and carries a floating pinion 16 at the other end, which gears with two wheels 13, 14, which in turn gear with a large wheel 12 connected to the road wheel. Where a train of gearing is arranged at each side of the vehicle, the bearing for the countershaft may be dispensed with, and the countershaft may be provided with a floating pinion at each end.
