Change.speed gear; transmission gear of invariable ratio; independent driving on opposite sides.-Endless-track and other tractors have all the wheels driven by means of a pair of inclined shafts D through worm gearing. The shafts D are driven through friction-disk gearing B, C arranged at each end of the central driving-shaft, steering being effected by altering the gear ratios of the friction gears. The power plant may be petrol or electric, and a pair of vehicles may be coupled together with a generator on one and a motor on the other. The driving-gear may be fitted to rail vehicles. A modification is shown in which the wheels do not track, and on one side are of the same size and on the other side of different sizes.
