Chain, axle, and like distance members or adjusters.-Variable-speed and reversing friction driving gear applied to a motor road vehicle has the shaft 32 of the driven disk connected by reducing-gearing in a casing 38 and sprocket gearing to the road-wheel axle, the gearing being provided with a chain-tensioning device comprising an eyebolt 43 secured to one end of the casing 38 and locking-means 39 at the other end, the casing and the sprocket wheel carried thereby being adjusted on the shaft 32 to vary the tension of the chain.
