Abstract

234,916. Bullimore, W. R. March 10, 1924. Wire resitances, cored. -A resistance with a cut-out is mounted or wound on the cap of a thermionic valve so as to enable the valve to replace one requiring a different current strength without any re-arrangement of the receiving set. As shown in Figs. 1 and 2 the resistance 1 is wound on an insulating bobbin 2 fitting over the valve contact pins 8, 10 whilst allowing of their insertion into sockets. The bobbin may be secured to cap by a screw 20. One end of the resistance is connected with a ring 4, and the other end with a leaf-spring 15. One filament lead 12 is connected with a ring 5 and the other 11 with the pin 10. When the bobbin is mounted in the position shown in Fig. 1, the rings 4, 5 are brought into engagement and the spring 15 engages with the pin 8, so that the resistance is connected in series with the filame.nt. When mounted in the reverse position, a flanged metallic socket 17a engages with the ring 5 and with the pin 8 so that the resistance is cut out. In the arrangement shown in Fig. 4 the resistance 30 is wound in a recess in the valve cap 23. One end of the resistance is connected with a contact pin 24 and the other with a block 32, which is also connected with a filament lead 41. In the position shown, a contact screw 37 is in engagement with the pin 24 and short-circuits the resistance. The screw may be removed so as to insert the resistance, and may be accommodated in a socket (not shown) in the plug.
