Electrolytes.-In sealed dry cells or secondary batteries having zinc and carbon electrodes, a manganese dioxide depolarizer and a thickened electrolyte containing ammonium chloride, magnesium chloride is added to the electrolyte and only such a quantity of water is employed as is normally absorbed by the electrolyte. Preferably the ammonium chloride and magnesium chloride are present in the proportions of their molecular weights. Specification 14316/96, [Class 61, Hand tools &c], is referred to.
