Abstract

173,251. Brydon, S., and Cummings, E. July 3, 1920. Electrolytes.-An electrolyte for a dry cell of the inert type consists of a mixture of an ammonium salt with a double salt of ammonia and a metal. Dextrin, gelatine, gum, or other colloidal substance may be added. In an example 62 per cent of ammonium chloride is mixed with 33 per cent of double chloride of zinc and ammonia and 5 per cent of dextrin. The electrolyte is prepared by damping the mixture of ammonium chloride and zinc ammonium chloride, adding finely divided gum, gelatine, or dextrin &c. mixing, and then drying by a gentle heat. The mixture is then ground and introduced into the cell, water being added when the cell is required for use.
