389,738. Galvanic batteries. NEDERLANDSCHE ELECTROLYT MAATSCHAPPIJ (LIGHTNING MIJ) NAAMLOOZE VENNOOTSCHAP, Utrecht, Holland. Aug. 25, 1932, No. 23840. Convention date, July 23. [Class 53.] An electrolyte or forming solution for the plates of accumulators contains one or more of the alkali metals, one or more of the divalent metals magnesium, beryllium, zinc or cadmium, also aluminium and an organic substance. Glycerine and a dyestuff such as cochineal or an azo-dye or Turkey red and an organic nitro-compound such as nitrobenzene or an aniline sulphonic acid may also be added. In an example the solution contains magnesium sulphate and carbonate, sodium sulphate, alum, potassium sodium bitartrate, glycerine, cochineal and nitrobenzene. Zinc sulphate may be used instead of magnesium sulphate and lithium sulphate may replace the sodium sulphate. With the addition of sulphuric acid the solution may be used as the electrolyte in the cell. The materials may also be incorporated in the active material of the positive plates so that they become dissolved when the cell is filled with acid.
