Abstract

234,551. Higgins, C. F. Feb. 28, 1924. Surface condensers. - The condensate from a surfacecondenser is sprayed into the condenser shell near the steam inlet so as to be heated by the incoming steam and is collected and discharged without passing over the tubes. A pump c forces the condensate to a perforated pipe h beneath which is arranged a gutter l with a discharge pipe e. Perforated trays may be arranged between the pipe h and the gutter l, and tubes s may be provided heated bv steam hotter than the steam entering the condenser to drive off air dissolved in the condensate.
