Abstract

Surface condensers. - In steam condensers of the tubular surface type, a space e below a portion s of the condensing-surface communicates with the steam inlet b so that steam passes freely through the space and heats the condensate falling from the tubes, and trays or plates p direct the falling condensate to a channel h leading to the condensate outlet c so as to prevent the condensate coming into contact with the lower portion s<1> of the condensing surface. According to modifications, multiple steam spaces .are arranged in tiers; air is withdrawn from one side of the condenser only, and the steam-inlet space f on the opposite side is carried down to the base; the air and condensate are removed at a common outlet in the base and the steam spaces are of wedge shape being restricted at the central passage.
