Volatile liquids, recovering. - The fumes from bakers' ovens are treated to separate strong alcohol by being passed through a dephlegmator to separate water and through a surface condenser. Rectifiers.-The fumes from the ovens 3 are led upwards through a dephlegmator consisting of a series of air-cooled superposed chambers 7 on the outside of which cooling water may be sprayed. Condensed water may pass downwards through central vapour passages, or the vapour passages 19 may be arranged at the sides and the condensate from each chamber 7 be led by pipes 20 to collecting conduits 21, 22. A pressure-equalizing chamber 26 may be placed between the conduit 5 and the dephlegmator, and the vapours from the top of the dephlegmator may be reheated by passage through a pipe 29 in a chamber 30 receiving steam from a chamber 36 collecting steam from other ovens. Steam from the chamber 30 may be passed into the chamber 26. Surface condensers.-The vapours are finally condensed in multiple-coil pipes 12 arranged in cooling-water. The lower header 33 is fitted with a number of ventilating pipes 34 passing upwards through the cooling-water and opening above its surface or with a single ventilating pipe provided with bulbs or chambers along its length.
