Cylinders receiving liquid fuel.-A cylinder head is provided with two spigots b, c, one of which engages with the upper end of the cylinder liner d, and the other fits within the outer wall of the cylinder water jacket e. The outer joint at c is constructed so that vertical movement is possible between the water jacket wall and the cylinder head, the joint being packed, for example, by a rubber ring f. The head is strengthened by ribs g between the, inner and outer walls, and by bosses such as h within which starting air or fuel admission valves may be housed. A combustion chamber a with an unjacketed portion i is. formed within the cylinder head. A modified construction is also described in which the auxiliary chamber a is omitted, the cylinder head holding down bolts pass through strengthening ribs such as g, and an axial fuel injector is used.
