Abstract
333,638. Ricardo, H. R. May 21, 1929. Cylinders receiving liquid fuel. - In opposed piston engines wherein tangential admission ports A<1> cause a rotary motion of the air within the cylinder, the pistons are out of phase, so that during the fuel injection period, the piston E which controls the air admission ports A<1>, is moving towards the combustion chamber D to ensure axial movement of the whole body of the air. The combustion chamber is of less diameter than the cylinders, and may be of pure Venturi shape or of the shape shown in Fig. 4. One or more fuel injection nozzles N are arranged to give a radial jet or as shown in Fig. 4 they may be placed to one side so that the fuel jet is along the combustion chamber.
