Abstract

233,574. Armstrong, J. J. V., (Continental Can Co., Inc.). Aug. 6, 1924. Capsules and like closures; lever lids.-A lid 6, having a depending portion 8 adapted frictionally to engage the inner wall of a metal container 1 and an outwardly extending flange 7 adapted to overlie an outwardly rolled flange 2 formed on the container, is secured to a metal container by an integral sealing ring 9 formed with a porton adapted to overlie the flange 7 and a depending portion 11 having slits 13 which extend upwardly from its lower edge and provide tongues 14 adapted to be bent independently beneath the flange 2. The ring is released by pulling outwards the outwardly directed ends of the tongues 14, the ends being bent back upon themselves as shown at 12 to avoid raw edges. The slits 13 extend up to the point of maximum diameter of the flange 2 and are disposed relatively close together to prevent the tongues 14 from overlapping in the contracted portion 4 of the body in which they are housed.
