Lids, hermetic.-A cap 1 for closing the aperture in a tin &c. 7, has a vertical rim with slots 3 formed on its flange 2 which slots are engaged by fixed lugs on the expanding-tool. This prevents rotation and reduces the danger of the cap being drawn through. This danger may be further reduced by forming in the cap a central depression 37 which becomes flattened when the cap is expanded at 8.
