Abstract
233,102. Chamberlain, W. A., and Clark, W. W. March 22, 1924. Railway and tramway rails, trueing and surfacing in situ.- A machine for grinding railway and tramway rails comprises a frame 2 supported on two pairs of adjustable legs 4, 5, the legs 5 fitting the rail and serving for adjustment of the grinding-wheel 8, and the legs 4 serving to adjust the level of the machine. On the frame is a saddle 3, moved along the frame by a handoperated screw 6, and on the saddle is pivotally mounted, by means of a screwed shaft 14, a frame comprising two levers 7 carrying at one end the grinding-wheel, and carrying at the other end a nut L2 engaging a hand operated screw 11, whereby the levers are rocked to adjust the grinding-wheel. The wheel may be adjusted axially by rotation of the shaft 14, which is mounted in the saddle 3 to rotate but not to move axially, and screws in the frame. The sbaft is operated, through gearing 16, 17, by a handle 18. To enable the machine to be placed in, and removed from operative position, two wheels 19 are mounted on axles 20 carried bv levers 22 pivoted on the frame 2, and movable by a bar 23.
