Abstract

255,176. Buckley, P., and Buckley, Saunders, & Co., Ltd. April 27, 1925. Railway and tramway rails, trueing and surfacing in situ.-A machine for grinding tramway &c. rails comprises an undercarriage 1 having flanged wheels to travel on the rails and carrying, by means of three screws 4, 5, a table 3 on which is mounted a motor 7 driving a grinding-wheel 10; the table is supported on the undercarriage by means of a trunnion 6 situated between the screws 5, whereby adjustment of the pressure of the wheel and its angular position is possible by means of the screws. The machine is moved along the rails by a worm wheel 17 secured to one of the track wheels and rotated by a worm 18 operated by hand or by the motor. The worm 18 may be lifted from contact with the worm wheel 17 to allow the machine to be pushed freely along the rails, and the machine may be moved when not resting upon the rails, by travelling wheels 13 brought into contact with the ground by a lever 14. The grinding-wheel may be adjustable axially and the table may be moved transversely by sliding the trunnion; the rail wheels also may be adjustable to tracks of different widths.
