Abstract

Lever-actuated pumps; concussion-preventing ; mountings ; double-acting piston pumps; materials, special; valves, arrangement of. - In a hand-operated pump suitable for ventilating tunnels &c. the cylinder 10 is surrounded by a jacket 38, which is enlarged at one side to form a valve chamber 49 and is positioned to provide inlet and outlet passages connecting the valve chamber to inlet and outlet conduits. The pump may be double-acting with the valves for both ends of the cylinder arranged in the one valve chamber. It is mounted on a base 12 which may consist of a light wooden framework provided with carrying crossbars 66. The piston may be actuated by a lever 25 pivoted to a plate 30 on the base and connected to the piston rod by a pair of rods 34 and wooden blocks 36. The ends of the barrel 10 may have buffers 24 to prevent shock.
