Steam pumps; multipledelivery piston pumps.-A direct-acting steam or like pump especially suitable for pumping boiler feed or other hot liquids comprises a single cylinder divided by a partition f to accommodate two pistons g<1>, g<2>, which may be longer than their stroke, and are connected by a rod k with a distance piece k<1>. Ports b<1>, b<2> are provided at the outer ends of the cylinder for the admission and exhaust of pressure fluid under the control of a hollow piston valve c<2> actuated by a tappet lever d<2>. The exhaust e may be constricted to set up back pressure and assist in reversing the valve. The inlet and discharge valves (not shown) for the fluid pumped are placed near the partition, which is shaped as shown for the purpose of reducing clearance. Ports m<1>, m<2> are formed in the cylinder whereby the pressure fluid at the end of each stroke is conducted to the suction side of the other piston. In the case of a steam pump, this arrangement provides for heating the liquid pumped. In a modified form shown in Fig. 4, the distributing valve comprises two piston valves o<1>, o<2> actuated by fluid pressure from the cylinder through passages s<1>, s<2>, and provided with buffers o<7>. Leakage passages t are arranged as shown behind the valve pistons. When used for pumping cold liquids the pistons may be jacketed as shown in Fig. 7.
