Abstract

553,242. Pulling jacks ; ordnance recoil apparatus. COOK, C. Nov. 11, 1941, No. 14503. [Class 78 (iii)] [Also in Group XXT] A pulling jack particularly intended for compressing the recoil spring of ordnance and measuring the compressive force, consists of a main cylinder 1 and piston 4 having secured at the end of the main cylinder a pump cylinder body 3 with plunger 8 hand operated. A one way suction valve 11 connects the pump to either end of the main cylinder through a three-way cock and pressure liquid is supplied from the pump also to either end of the main cylinder through a non-return valve 13 and a three way cock 15 which can also be set to connect the two ends of the main cylinder to one another to facilitate return movement. The piston rod with attachment eye 6 passes through packing 25. A second attachment eye 30 is secured to the pump body. The passage to the non-return valve 13 may be closed by a cock and liquid from the main cylinder may then be pumped to the recuperation chamber of a gun recoil mechanism through a connection to passage 28.
