Abstract

214,041. Caulfeild, R. St. G. Feb. 23, 1923. Delivery pipes; emptying.-In petrol and like measuring pumps the hose is emptied by injecting compressed air into the upper portion thereof after the delivery has been interrupted. A compressed-air pump operated by a pinion 10 engaging the piston-rod rack 11 forces air into a chamber 13 connected to a two-way cock 15 interposed between the pump delivery and the delivery hose. When the petrol is turned off, air is injected into and empties the hose. The compressor may be single acting and operated by a one-way clutch, or it may be a double-acting one. In a modification, the compressor cylinder carries a spring-passed piston the rod of which is arranged concentric with and is forced up by the rack 11. The air is compressed in the bottom of the cylinder and passes to a cock such as 15.
