Abstract

576,509. Reciprocating pumps. BOOTH, D. G., and PLESSEY CO., Ltd. March 3, 1944, No. 3982. [Class 102 (i)] In a double-acting reciprocating pump of the type having low and high pressure conduits 14, 15, 18, 21 and inlet and discharge valves 16, 16a, 17, 17a, 19, 19a, 20, 20a at both ends of two or moie cylinders 2, 3, the ends of the cylinders are connected by by-pass conduits 23, 24 containing by-pass valves' 25, 25a which are subjected to the delivery pressure of the pump against the action of springs 25e the loading of which determines the pressures at which the by-pass valves open. The pistons 4, 5 are reciprocated manually in opposite directions by means of a common handle 12 and a pinion 10 engaging toothed racks 8, 9 on the piston rods 6, 7, whilst the springs 25e are accommodated in chambers 26, 26a on the low pressure side of the pump.
