Sliding-jaw wrenches.-A spanner, pipe wrench, or the like comprises a fixed slotted jaw A on the shank of which is pivoted an operating lever E, a jaw C slidable on the shank of the fixed jaw A and having a pivot pin H passing through the slot B in the jaw A, and a link or links F connecting the pivot pin H with a pivot G on the operating lever E, so that angular movement of the lever E reciprocates the movable jaw. The pivot G may be placed in any one of a number of holes in the lever E. The jaws may be smooth or provided with teeth, and may be parallel or shaped to grip hexagonal nuts or pipes.
