Abstract

142,370. Bessolo, W. L. July 28, 1919. Pliers. - Wrenches, pliers, &c., comprising a jaw fixed to a shank and a pivoted jaw adjustably connected by a link to an operating lever pivoted to the shank, have the rear end of the pivoted jaw formed with teeth for engagement with teeth on the link. The construction is applicable to punches and dental forceps. Fig. 1 shows a wrench constructed with serrated jaws 10, 11, Fig. 1, pivoted at 16, the jaw 10 being integral with a shank 12 and the jaw 11 extending through a slot in the shank and terminating in teeth 17 adapted to be engaged by teeth 19 on a transverse member 18 passing through the slot and pivoted at 20 to an operating-lever 21, which is pivoted to a lug 24 on the shank 12. A spring 27 is arranged to press the lever 21 away from the shank 12. Adjustment of the jaws can be effected on pressing back the member 18 against a spring 22 to disengage the teeth 19, 17.
