Abstract

211,136. Cantilever Wrench Co., Inc., (Assignees of Babcock, F. H.). Feb. 6, 1923, [Convention date]. Chain wrenches.-A chain pipe-wrench comprises a handle 1 having a cam-shaped end 2 enclosed in a yoke 8 carrying hooks 12 for the chain 13, the end 2 being adapted in operation, to bear against one of the walls of the yoke and cause a shoe 5 to grip the pipe 15. One side of the handle-end 2 is of single convex form 4 and bears against ledges 9 on the inner wall of the voke. The other side of the end 2 is of double convex form 3 and bears against the inner side of a V-jaw 6 on the shoe 5, the shoe being pivotally and slidably connected with the yoke 8 by a pin 11 and slots 7 so that when the handle 1 is turned, the shoe is moved outwardly to tighten the chain and grip the pipe. The chain links are hollow and one end of each link extends within the end of the adjacent link. One end of the chain may be permanently attached to the yoke 8.
