Abstract

Chain wrenches.-In a chain pipe wrench of the kind in which the chain is connected to the handle by a pair of spaced links and after passing round the pipe, passes over the end of the handle and between the links and is connected to a hook on the handle, the handle a is provided with a substantially circular head a' eccentric to the pivot a' of the links c to form a cam which bears against the chain b to strain it round the pipe d. The chain may be of ordinary construction or as shown the outer surfaces b<2> of the links may be straight and extended to increase the pressure of the cam on the chain. For small pipes the cam a<1> may be arranged symmetrically with respect to the longitudinal axis of the handle a the pivot c<5> of the links c being arranged in this axis. The retaining hook a<3> may engage between the chain links or may consist of two hooks engaging the projecting ends of the chain link pivots, or a pin a<5>, Fig. 11, provided with a split head a<6> to form a spring stud may be employed.
