Abstract

229,470. Sankey, A. R. M. Jan. 28, 1924. Current motors. - A current motor is provided with circular series h, i of feathering vanes which are arranged to form pockets r on the driving side of the motor. In the construction shown in Fig. 2, the outer vanes h are pivoted at one edge k and are provided with balancing frames m and stops n. The inner vanes j are unequally pivoted so that the wind pressure on the driving side forces the end j into contact with the corresponding vane h to form a pocket r. The vanes j are balanced by wide vanes o provided with stops p to coact with alternate sets of the outer vanes. In the construction shown in Fig. 3, the vanes h are pivoted either at the centre with part of the outer surface cut away or nearer the outer edge h<1> so as to be forced against stops w to form the pockets. By this means the vanes h feather within the circumference of the rotor without waste of wind pressure. The rotor may be mounted within a ring of guide-vanes u, such as is described in Specification 210,937.
