The piston is actuated by rods 18 slid. ing on guides 21 and connected to eccentrics 20, Fig. 2, which are oscillated by links 31 and cams 29. The cams are oscillated by a link 26, eccentric 25, and rack-and-pinion gear 23, the arrangement being such that, during the combustion period, the eccentrics 20 are on a dead centre and hold the piston 37 against movement. Reference has been directed by the Comptroller to Specifications 23179/12, 173,294, and 196,393.
