Abstract

220,082. Ronaldson, F. H. May 14, 1923. Valves; valve-gear.- A sleeve valve 3, formed with inclined elongated ports along its walls co-operating with inlet and exhaust ports in the cylinder, is mounted on the piston so as to be reciprocated therewith, and is at the same time continuously rotated by gearing actuated by the movements of the connecting-rod upon the gudgeon pin. The connecting-rod end 6 is formed with clutch teeth 18 adapted to engage similar clutches 13, 14 connected to bevel wheels 9, 11 gearing with another bevel 28 connected to the sleeve valve. The clutches 13, 14 are alternately moved into engagement with the teeth 18 at the ends of the angular movement of the connecting-rod, by means of cams 23 mounted on the piston and engaging the clutches through balls 26. Wearing plates 29, 29<a> are fitted between the sleeve valve and piston.
