Abstract
227,667. Lago, A. F., and Lago, Ltd., A. F. March 11, 1924. Spray carburettors.-The induction passage 17, 16, 18 is surmounted bv a float chamber 1, a float 2 in which surrounds a column 7 which encloses the jet tube 9 provided at its upper end with an interchangeable air inlet plug 11, at its lower end with a main fuel nozzle 10 and in its wall with discharge apertures 12. The column encloses also a number of tubes 23 communicating with an outlet 21 in a removable choke tube 19, and an intermediate fuel nozzle 24 - - 30 which comes into action after the pilot nozzle 35, 36 and before the main nozzle 10. The parts enclosed bv the column 7 are mounted in a boss 6 at the bottom of the float chamber. Fuel reaches the main nozzle 10 through a duct 14. and the upper ends of the tubes 23 extend slightly above the normal fuel level. The intermediate nozzle 23*, 24 is screwed at 25 to receive a cover piece 26 having an aperture 29 in its upper end and a lateral aperture 28 in its wall. The chambers 24, 27 are in communication through the duct 30 and air may be admitted to the chamber 24 through a duct 31 controlled by a valve 32, Fig. 2. The pilot arrangement comprises a chamber 34 which is fed from the float chamber through a duct 35 and is closed at the top by an adjustable or interchangeable air inlet plug 37. Additional air may be admitted to the pilot channel 36 through an adjustable or interchangeable plug 39. The float 2, Fig. 2, acts through a lever 4 upon an adjustable collar 47 on the spindle of the fuel valve 3, which spindle is loaded by a spring 52 bearing on a second adjustable collar 46 to ensure the valve being seated. The collar 47 permits of the fuel level being adjusted according to the specific gravity of the fuel. The throttle valve comprises two pivoted shutters 58, 64 geared at 62, 63 so as to move scissors-fashion across the induction passage 16. Before the main nozzle 10 comes into action, air drawn through tubes 23 and' aperture 29 mixes with fuel drawn in at 28, the resulting mixture passing through duct 30 to chamber 33 where it may be diluted with air from duct 31.
