Abstract

227,296. Shorter, A. E., and Boucher, C. L. July 17, 1924. Burners, mounting.-In an apparatus for hardening gear-wheel teeth, an oxyacetylene or other burner L is mounted in brackets M on a carrier H adjustably mounted on a slide E which moves over guides D on the frame C and is provided with a nut which is engaged by a rotating screw F. The direction of rotation of the screw F and consequently the direction of movement of the slide E is reversed automatically when the flame has reached the end of the tooth or slightly beyond the same. In the apparatus shown, the slide E engages at the ends of its movement with adjustable stops Y, Y<1> on a bar Wand operates a belt fork U transferring the belt from a pulley R driving a disc 0 to a pulley T driving a disc Q. The discs 0, Q engage frictionally a disc N mounted on the screw F. Alternatively, the slide E may be operated by an electric motor which is reversed bv the actuation of switches at the ends of the slide's travel.
