Variable-speed friction gearing.-The reciprocating work table of a sawing-machine is driven at varying speed by means of disc-and-roller gear comprising a driving disc 14 held by springs 21 against a driven roller 13 connected by links 26 to a controlling-lever 25. A recess 20 at the centre of the disc provides a neutral position at which no motion is transmitted. The spindle 10 on which the roller is splined is geared to a pinion engaging a rack on the table.
