Variable - speed chain gearing.-A chain wheel is divided into two parts b, a, the part a being adjustable about a point g on its end tooth h, for example to the position shown, so as in effect to enlarge the wheel by one or more teeth. The average speed of drive is thus changed, a cyclic variation of velocity being necessarily produced at the same time. The part a is secured in the desired positions by a bolt m engaging a slot k, centred at g, in the disc c to which the part b is fixedly secured, and by a projection p on the part b engaging with either of recesses o, o<1>, in the disc c and clamped therein by a bolt f. The wheel is particularly applicable for driving the batten of a ribbon loom, in which it is driven by a chain from the main driving-shaft.
