Magnetic instruments.-In a telephone receiver of the type wherein the core of an electromagnet is centrallv situated in a magnetic casing, the core comprises a central soft-iron member 4 and an outer sleeve or cap 3 which constitutes a permanent magnet, and surrounds the upper portion of the member 4. A coil 5 is wound upon a former 6 which surrounds the permanent magnet.
