219,269. Edlington, T. E. March 21, 1923. Reaping and mowing machines. - In a motor machine having the cutting- apparatus arranged in front, means for reciprocating the knife - bar comprises a supplementary bar parallel to the knife-bar and attached to it at or near its end or ends by brackets or yokes, the supplementary bar being mounted in guides behind the knife-bar and reciprocated by a crank through a link, bell-crank, or the like. The machine is mounted on two main wheels 2, 2a and two other wheels 3, 3<a>, the main wheels being driven from a motor 4. The knife-bar 7 works through guides 8, 8a and carries knives 7<a> coacting with fingers 9. The supplementary bar 11 moves in, guides 12, 12<a> and is attached to the knife-bar 7 by yokes 13, 13<a> and bolts 14. It is connected by a boss 15 to a sliding piece 16 that is reciprocated on a cross-bar 18 by means of a crank disc 31, a connecting-rod 34, a sliding piece 24, and a bell-crank lever 21. The arms of the bell-crank are connected with the sliding pieces 16, 24 through blocks 19, 27 movably mounted in boxshaped extensions of the sliding pieces. The cut crop falls on a platform or ledge 37 and is removed by a conveyer.
