586,212. Cutters for reaping-machines. CASS, A. Sept. 13, 1944, No. 17435. [Class 6 (iii)] To enable the teeth of the reciprocating blades of a reaping-machine to come into operation successively during a cutting stroke, they or the fingers 4 of the fixed bar are equally spaced and are arranged in sections such as a, b, c, separated by a gap or tooth of narrower width than the teeth. Thus in the case of the cutting device shown the teeth 2 of the reciprocating bar are arranged in three sections which are spaced by a narrow tooth 3, whereby the sections come successively into operation with the equally spaced fingers 4. In the alternative form, all the teeth of the reciprocating bar are equally spaced and the fingers are arranged in sections, the spaces between adjacent end fingers of the sections being smaller than the rest.
