Abstract

Retractive switches; switches, quick-action.- The heating circuit of an electric hand-iron is controlled by a switch member horizontally slidable in the handle so that the circuit is closed by the grip and broken when the grip is removed. The handle 1 is furnished with fixed and removable end plugs 4<a>, 4 and contains a diaphragm 7 supporting terminals 13 connected to switch contacts 10. A. rod 12 slidable in a frame 8 carried by the diaphragm 7 is furnished with a contact bridge 11 and is operated by a bell-crank lever 14 controlled by a spring 17 and rocked counterclockwise by a grip lever 16 linked to the bellcrank lever and pivoted to the frame 8 at 29. To effect a snap action of the switch, the rod 12 is provided with a pair of pivoted rods 18 eucircled by springs 20 and passing loosely through holes in the frame 8, so that when the rod has slid far enough to bring the rods into alignment and passes beyond this point the springs come into action to close or open the switch suddenly. The grip lever may be secured in current-maintaining position by means of a counterweighted pivoted loop 23.
