Abstract

254,776. Cox, F. B. April 1, 1925. Switches, quick-action. - In enclosed-type switchgear the angularly-movable actuating spindle, which may itself carry movable contacts, passes through both walls of the enclosing casing and carries one or two contact-carrying sleeves each of which also passes through the casing wall and is actuated through mechanism arranged between the protruding ends of the sleeve and spindle. In Fig. 1 the contacts c are carried on a sleeve C carrying a bush c<1> journaled in one of the end plates A. The spindle B is contained within the sleeve C and the spindle and sleeve carry arms b<2>, c<2> having cranked portions b<3>, c<3> connected by a dead-centre spring D the spindle B also carrying an operating handle b<1>. In Fig. 2 two contact-carrying sleeves C<1>, C<2> are provided with ends journaled in the end plates A, A<1> the spindle B passing through both sleeves. The sleeve C<2> may be secured to the spindle B or the spindle B may carry a third contact-carrying sleeve C<3> secured thereto as shown in Fig. 3.
